THE OVERVIEW
As the Social Media Intern at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, I created digital content showcasing ways for guests to connect with nature. My work included creating short form videos for TikTok and Instagram, writing for the Garden Blog, covering events on Facebook and Instagram stories, and responding to comments and direct messages across all social media platforms. This internship taught me how to use storytelling to connect people to all the garden has to offer.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DIA DE LOS MUERTOS AT THE GARDEN
“Every year we celebrate all that fall has to offer at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden with HarvestFest. HarvestFest brings food trucks, activities, and incredible performances from local artists to the Garden for the enjoyment of the community. This year’s HarvestFest will be on October 28th and will be Dia de los Muertos themed. “It is one of my favorite holidays because I grew up in Mexico,” says Lewis Ginter’s Exhibits and Programming Coordinator, Michelle Israel, who is organizing the Garden’s festivities. “This holiday is different from others because it’s about celebrating and remembering your loved ones and it also brings you back to your roots. Here’s everything you need to know about Dia de los Muertos and this year’s Harvestfest celebration at the Garden.”
Reflection
My time as Lewis Ginter’s Social Media Intern taught me how to embrace an organization’s brand identity and create content that engaged both loyal followers and new audiences. I learned the importance of going above and beyond for a community by responding thoughtfully to questions, addressing concerns, and tracking down answers when needed. The experience strengthened my confidence and professionalism in writing and editing captions that aligned with the Garden’s tone and purpose, while also teaching me to adapt quickly during live event coverage. Overall, the internship affirmed my passion for storytelling through social media and showed me how digital content can connect people to meaningful experiences right in their own backyard.
